"Conference theme: Researching education: future directions -
The theme explores the current state of education research in South Africa, and looks forward to the future directions that research may take. Much education research in the past two decades has focused on a range of education policies and the implementation of these policies. Research has tended to be small scale, and qualitative in nature, although we have seen an increasing emphasis on the analysis of large achievement studies in schooling. We envisage that the conference will provide a space to reflect on the nature, the purpose and the role of education research at present, and to look forward to new theoretical and methodological directions in the field. The conference will engage with all contexts of research – Higher Education, Further Education and Training, informal education, adult education, as well as schooling. All fields of education research are welcomed (for example, maths and science education, language education, pedagogy, curriculum etc.)." [Abstract: Site editor’s information]
