This international conference, organized by the Center for Research in Lifelong Learning (CRELL) of the Joint Research Center, responds to a request formulated by the European Council to the European Commission to propose a benchmark on the role of education and training for employability. In the context of this exercise, CRELL gathers prominent scholars to foster the exchange of knowledge and research findings in the field of employability. The conference will be articulated around three main thematic axes:
- The role of Education and Training (E&T) systems in the preparation for employment
- School-to-work transitions
- Maintenance and upgrading of employability.
Within each of these three axes scholars are specifically invited to address the challenges for the education and training institutions, the challenges for the labor market and potential solutions towards a skillsÂ’ demand-supply equilibrium. The first day of the conference will be dedicated to presentations and discussions on policy evaluation and successful experiences of the contribution of Education and Training systems to the preparation for employment and to ensure a smooth first transition to the labour market. The second day of the conference will be dedicated to presentations and discussions on the mechanisms underlying the necessary equilibrium between skills supply and skills demand and on the continuous role of E&T systems for the maintenance and upgrading of employability throughout the career.
