Because they are expected to play a crucial role in knowledge societies, higher education and
research have reached the top of governmental agendas. In all countries, they have been for
many years at the center of reforms aimed at deeply transforming university practices and
governance that are considered poorly adapted to contemporary settings and to the new
missions, universities and research institutions are expected to fulfill.
The objective of this third international conference is not only to sort out these reforms, in
France and in other countries, but also to look at them through renewed perspectives.
