Der Autor reagiert in derselben Ausgabe der Zeitschrift (2006) auf den Artikel von Gregg D. Beratan "Institutionalizing Inequity: Ableism, Racism and IDEA 2004". Beratan kritisierte das US-amerikanische Gesetz zur Verbesserung der Bildung für Menschen mit Behinderungen (IDEA 2004) dahingehend, dass dieses die Diskrimierung paradoxerweise sogar noch weiter fördere. Fierros ergänzt diesen Artikel, widerspricht ihm teilweise auch und legt einen Schwerpunkt auf das konkrete Handeln der Lehrkräfte vor Ort. [Zusammenfassung: Redaktion Bildung Weltweit].
This article is a direct response in the same journal issue (2006) to Beratan's article "Institutionalizing Inequity: Ableism, Racism and IDEA 2004". Beratan criticized the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA 2004) as paradoxically institutionalising discrimination against people with disabilities. Fierros adds to the article by giving a definition of ableism, by contradicting some arguments, and by focussing on concrete teachers' action in the classroom.
