The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport was established in 2001. The Slovenian Government encourages scientific research and technological development and promotes the transfer of the results and development to the economy and other parts of society.The national technology policy, elaborated in the Technology Policy of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia adopted in 1994, and the national science policy, elaborated in the National Research Programme adopted in 1995, are parts of the national development strategy and Government policy. The Ministry is responsible in co-operation with other Ministries, for most public programmes in the fields of education, science and sport.
