Over four decades, the IEA has carried out international comparative studies focusing on student achievement in relation to educational policies and practices. The regular cycle of studies encompasses learning in basic school subjects. Examples are current Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) and Trends in Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS 2003). IEA projects also include studies of particular interests to IEA members, such as Civic Education Study (CIVED) and Second Information Technology in Education Study (SITES).
