National Education Portals and Transfer Agencies Worldwide
National education servers or portals emerged in the early years of the internet, in the late 1990s and early 2000s. They were mostly official national initiatives by ministries of education or similar official bodies to collect, classify, and disseminate reliable, reputable, and free educational information for their citizens via an internet portal. These educational servers or portals thus also took on a function as a transfer point from research to practice, to politics and, in general, to the interested public.
In many countries, these functions are now performed by private companies, initiatives, and the like – often on a commercial basis, meaning they charge fees. Consequently, many former education portals have been shut down. However, some still exist in certain countries, or new ones have been set up as digital transfer centres. We are attempting to list these here. This list is a work in progress and makes no claim to be exhaustive.
