Educational Research in Serbia

Serbia has been in the headlines since November 2024 due to mass protests. The protests were sparked by the collapse of a railway station canopy in the Serbian city of Novi Sad, which killed more than a dozen people. The protesters blame the Serbian government and criticise corruption and authoritarian structures.

What is remarkable is that it is primarily young people and students who are driving these protests. Since the end of November, they have occupied more than 60 faculties throughout Serbia. Their demands go beyond educational policy issues. On the one hand, they want a full investigation into the Novi Sad accident. On the other hand, they are calling for more profound changes towards greater democracy in Serbia.

In these exceptional times for Serbia, the ECER (European Conference on Educational Research) will take place in Serbia's capital Belgrade from 8 to 12 September 2025. To mark the occasion, Bildung Weltweit has compiled a web dossier on educational research in Serbia, where you can find information on professional societies and associations, research institutes, research history, topics and trends, professional journals and more.
