The Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) is one of the most well-known US organisations advocating for the right to homeschool. Founded in 1983, the organisation played a key role in the legalisation of homeschooling in the United States; it wasn't until 1992 that homeschooling was legalised in all 50 states. The organisation describes itself as Christian, but critics also classify it as right-wing conservative. It now has affiliates in various other countries around the world.
