The Youth Critics Award is an award in the sense of the French "Prix Goncourt des Lycéens". This is intended to recognize young people as readers of Norwegian contemporary literature - experience confirms that the award encourages a lasting interest in reading among young participants. Nine school classes from different disciplines of secondary school are sent as representatives to the jury. The classes read eight novels that have been published this year, and they have about three months to choose a work they want to defend behind closed doors in Oslo ahead of the award ceremony. The Norwegian critics' association makes the selection of books and the young critics are supported by professional reviewers. Copies of the award-winning title will be distributed to 300 libraries throughout Norway.
