The Goethe Institutes are commissioned by the German government to foster German language and culture. The links to Brazil are close - Goethe Institute maintains six centres across the country, initiating and collaborating on cultural projects, fostering reading competence, language skills, translation of literature. In 2013, the Institute is engaged in the Frankfurt Book Fair where Brazil is Guest of Honour and in the German Year in Brazil.
