The Ministry for Science and Technology (MICIT) was founded in 1986 as a first period as National Science and Technology Program which was operating until 1990. During this period, it structured the national science and technology system, which incorporated the different institutions which worked in the field of science and technology. Its task is to promote and to stimulate the creation of appropriate conditions for research, innovation, knowledge and the technological development of the country to effect an economic upturn and a better life quality of the Costa Ricans.
