Latvia

This is the state agency Latvian Academic Library (LAL), which is supervised by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia, a research institution, universal research library, cultural and knowledge centre that collects, preserves, systematizes and provides public access to printed matter, manuscripts, electronic publications and other types of documents. Users have access to 1.3 million books, 1.7 million copies of periodical publications, 19 000 manuscripts, 32 000 rare books, computers with Internet access, CD-ROM and on-line databases as well as unique local databases worked out by the LAL. The LAL compiles and publishes bibliographic indexes, carries out research in library, bibliographic and book science and information technology.
