WERA was founded in 2009 and consists of national and regional educational research societies from more than 20 countries as well as of individual membership of educational researchers. WERA aims at connecting educational researchers worldwide. A number of international research networks were created to achieve that, they deal with the following topics:
>> Education policy
>> Ethics in education
>> Globalization, marketization, and privatization in education
>> Pedagogy
>> Social justice and educational advocacy
>> Teaching profession

Moreover, WERA regularly organises international conferences and workshops. In 2015, a new WERA series was published: the World Education Research Yearbook. [Abstract: Editors of Education Worldwide]
