Due to its presence on nearly every continent, AUF (Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie) is considered as a worldwide network of higher education and research institutions in the French-speaking countries. Piloted by its head office in Montréal (Canada) and supported by the central service office in Paris (France), this university association is operating under several regional offices as a partner to establishments of higher education and research, which are using French as their teaching language. In this function, AUF sets up several cooperation programs, which are in particular designed to support research and education in French, including promotion of scientific cooperation and sharing of expertise for qualitative research as well as training of junior staff members in teaching and science.
