This website is an information and communication platform for about 11,000 schools participating in the International Eco-Schools Programme (as of 2003/2004). Initiated as a European programme, Eco-Schools have reached now an international dimension. It aims at developing environmentally sustainable schools and the promotion of education for sustainable development. Independent of their starting situation all schools can gain an award, if they implement within the project time a self-developed concept for improving their environmental sustainability.
