This full text provides in the framework of the "Teaching & Learning about East Africa" Project (TLEAP) a brief survey on the development of education in Tanzania during the two decades after achieving political independence. The data of educational statistics bear therefore only historical character. The lack of financial resources is considered as a main reason for stagnation in the educational sector.
