This is the website of the Open Society Institute in Azerbaijan, a private operating and grantmaking assistance foundation in the Near East that develops and implements a range of programmes in civil society, culture, education, media, public administration, public health, and human and women's rights, as well as social, legal and economic reform. OSI-AF is part of the Soros foundations network, an informal network of organizations established and supported by investor and philanthropist George Soros, and active in more than 50 countries worldwide. On this website the tasks of the Open Society Institute and its departments are described. Besides the three operational programmes to satisfy the specific needs of education in Azerbaijan are emphazised: civic education, textbook development, and educational transformation.
