Kazakhstan
This full text contribution analyses the linguistic situation in Kazakhstan, the former central-asian Soviet Republic in the framework of transformation processes in general and educational reform in particular. The US-American author shows that the linguistic "Kazakization" has caused serious problems in financing and staffing educational institutions, since the ethnic starting conditions were quite different in comparison to those in other former Soviet Republics.
