"Since its establishment as a consortium of local education authorities in 1948, the Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC) has proven its value to the educational community in Wales. WJEC is now established as a company limited by guarantee, owned and controlled by the 22 unitary councils in Wales. It exists to provide a range of educational services", e. g. examination syllabuses, support for these syllabuses through in- service training for teachers, Welsh-medium resources and support for the Curriculum Cymreig, and co-ordination of Wales-Europe education and training projects.
