The Academia Sinica was founded in Nanking on June 9, 1928. As the most significant academic institution in the Republic of China (Taiwan), the Academia Sinica has two basic missions: conducting scientific research in its own institutes, as well as providing guidance, channels of communication, and encouragement to raising academic standards in the country.
