The IIEP was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1963 as a specialized centre for training and research in the field of educational planning and management. It was set up to meet the critical needs of UNESCO Member States - many of which were newly-independent - that sought to improve their educational systems. Thhe institute is focussed on the permanent observation of developments and needs in educational planning, the training of educational planners and administrators and the research and dissemination of these results in cooperation with its member States. - On this website further information on the mission, the main tasks and activitities of the institute are given.
