The Centre was created in 1972 to contribute to the development of higher education in UNESCO Member States of the Europe Region by promoting international co-operation in this field.The activities of CEPES are supervised by an Advisory Board consisting of prominent academics and active observers representing non-governmental and inter- governmental international organizations active in the field of higher education. CEPES has a total staff of 24 of which 4 have international status. The latter represent eastern Europe and North America and have considerable experience in project implementation and management in the field of East-West higher education.
