The research and documentation centre of South Tyrol´s educational history was initiated by Prof. Helmwart Hierdeis in 2007. It is part of the Department of Educational Science at the University of Bolzano. It focuses on the documentation and research of South Tyrol´s educational history concerning the three language groups within the country. The term education is acknowledged in its complete institutional and social spectrum and is considered essential from childhood to adulthood. The main focus lies in the framework of the 20th century and covers the school education from primary school age to the general qualification for university entrance. The emphasis is on the living, learning and working conditions of the students and teachers in their political, social, cultural and economic context.
