Der AWTI berät die niederländische Regierung und das Parlament in Fragen der Wissenschafts- und Technologiepolitik mit dem Fokus auf innovativen Entwicklungen. Koordiniert wird die Arbeit mit dem Ministerium für Bildung, Kultur und Wissenschaft sowie mit dem Wirtschaftsministerium. Im Auftrag des Bildungsministeriums werden auch zahlreiche Zukunftsstudien im Bereich Wissenschaft und Technik für die Niederlande ergestellt.
