Der vorliegende Beitrag analysiert gegenwärtige Trends der Doktorandenausbildung in Europa vor dem Hintergrund des Bolognaprozesses und der Bestrebungen um einen Europäischen Hochschul-, Forschungs- und Innovationsraum. Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten des Promotionswesens in den europäischen Ländern werden herausgearbeitet und gemeinsame Trends identifiziert. In vielen europäischen Ländern zeichnet sich eine Entwicklung hin zu strukturierten Formen der Doktorandenausbildung ab. (HoF/Text übernommen).

Main challenges, needs and trends in the field of doctoral studies in Europe and the United States from the perspective of the requirements of the Bologna Process are identified. A set of recommendations for further developments are formulated in the general context of the envisaged convergence of the European Higher Education Area and the European Research and Innovation Area.
