The Slovakian Library Assoziation is a voluntary independent association working towards public interests. Its founding members are the Slovak National Library SNK, the Slovak Technical Library, the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information and the University Library in Bratislava.
Since it was founded in 1992 the number of its members has increased to 30 scientific-academic libraries, 42 district, regional and municipal libraries, and 11 specialised libraries. The SLA thus constitutes the largest organisation of its kind in Slovakia. It is sourced by membership fees, donations and public funding.
The organisation pursues the promotion of collaboration of libraries in Slovakia, exchange at an international level, material and technical developments, support of library information services and the protection of library stocks in terms of preserving cultural heritage, but also the implementation of new programmes for innovating library stocks and facilities.
The SLA organises seminars, conferences and other activities pursuant to the shared goals of its members.
