When Stichting Lezen was founded in 2002 its goal was to promote and improve contexts that stimulate reading. Receiving annual grants from the Flemish Government, Stichting Lezen organises campaigns aimed at both children and adults. The association organises and runs these events in close collaboration with stakeholders from public libraries, education, the book profession, the media and the broad cultural and social sector. Additionally, Stichting Lezen is the Flemish governmentÂ’s point of contact for the promotion of reading and it stimulates research into reading and reading culture. In 2006, the Centre for ChildrenÂ’s Literature merged with Stichting Lezen. From 1976 onwards, the centre has continued to increase its expertise and information for matters concerning childrenÂ’s literature. Its scope and influence are primarily aimed at, but not limited to, Flanders. The centreÂ’s specialist library meets the needs of teachers, librarians, students, and specialists. It actively encourages research into childrenÂ’s literature and promotes knowledge in this field via national and international contacts.
