The GTF sees itself as a place of inspiration and support of research activities in the field of dancing and the communication. Originating from German speaking areas (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) it aspires international exchange and networking of dance research. Activities are: Acquirement of themes that are of interest from a dance science point of view (Jahresthemen), dance scientific advancement training (at symposia and conferences), inspiration and support of dance researching colloqia for graduate students (e.g. in the Werkstatt Tanzwissenschaft), interaction of dance scientific knowledge and experiences in artistic, educational and theoretical fields (Arbeitskreise etc.), cooperation in creating a national/international network of dance research. (Interessennetzwerke), publishing of dance scientific material (Jahrbücher)and representation of dance scientific interests in the political and social public within the scope of national (Vertretung im Deutschen Kulturrat) and international territories (ITI).
