"The article reflects on the research and production of scientific knowledge in education in Brazil with reference to look back on what has been written and produced in the field of knowledge since the second half of the twentieth century to the present. The authors and texts focused not represent the totality of what is produced in this area, but are the result of choices motivated by the intention to give an overview theoretical minimum so you can understand how this field of knowledge is constituted and developed in the country. The paper is divided into six topics and starts with a brief history of research in education in Brazil, placing it in the social context of the implementation of postgraduate. Then the paper presents the scientific production in Brazil in Education from texts produced by researchers. In the third and fourth topics the researches like 'state of knowledge' and those from Associations, Societies and Study Groups area are delt. Subsequently are approached the critical reflections on research in Education and History of Education, and finally, taking as reference the definition Bourdieusian of 'scientific field', the field of History of Education is situated on the basis of a set of observations from recent work on the subject."
