The 9th Summer School on the New Literatures in English will take place from the 14th to the 18th of September 2009 at the English Department of the Leibniz University of Hanover. According to the motto “Connecting Cultures” students of different nationalities as well as national and international academics and authors will meet for academic work and cultural exchange. One of the aims of the Summer School is to ensure a cultural and scholarly exchange of English-speaking people from around the world. The Summer School is a biennial event that is supported by the German Association for the Study of New English Literatures (ASNEL) and organised by students for students, who are interested in anglophone literatures and who want to gain new insights into the field. Besides 15 lectures dealing with different emphasis on the topic students will attend one seminar during the week to further expand their knowledge. The lectures and seminars are offered by high level lecturers from Germany and other European countries. In 2009, the Summer School benefits from the cooperation between the Historical and English departments of the Leibniz University of Hanover. Hanover‘s historical department focuses on non-European histories, which is a huge contribution to the English department‘s literary expertise. Additionally, courses on English as a global language will be offered. Furthermore, an attractive evening programme will be offered. This includes, for instance, getting to know Hanover, readings by Amma Darko and Meja Mwangi as well as a “night of intercultural encounter”. By attending the Summer School students have the chance to explore the cultural and literary variety of the English speaking world. Students will be rewarded with a Certificate / ECTS Credits and a tremendous personal experience. Registrations for the Summer School 2009 are possible until July 31st, 2009.
