General search hints
Capitalisation is not necessary.
It is possible to search for word parts (truncation).
For truncations use the wildcards * or %. They can be placed at the beginning, middle or end of a word.
For entries consisting of more than one word (phrases) please use an underline.
Examples: United_Kingdom, vocational_education
For reasons of performance a search leading to more than 2000 results are not carried out. Please state your search more precisely in that case, e.g. by restricting the search to a certain country.
With the drop down box "Maximum number of hits" you can regulate the number of documents on display.
Searching with Boolean operators
Within a field two or more search terms can be linked by using the Boolean operators AND and OR respectively. In this way the search can be expanded or narrowed. The default operator is OR. To change it to AND just tick the box "all words" to the right of the resprective field.
Between fields the operators AND, OR and AND NOT can be used.
Searching with indices
For each of the fields Country/Region, Keyword and Language exists an index, i.e. a list of valid terms for the respective field. Other terms will not be found. Clicking on a term starts a search for all documents containing this term. To include terms from the index in the search form copy the term and paste it into the search form.
Search fields: Explanations and hints
Free text search automatically includes all fields. It is recommended when the search in the field "Keyword" does not lead to enough results.
Keyword from index
This field is best used for thematic searching. Please use the index to look up the valid keywords. Clicking on a keyword starts a search for all documents containing this keyword. To include keywords from the index in the search form copy the term and paste it into the search form.

In this field you can search for a country, region or confederations of states. Please use the index to look up the valid terms. Clicking on a country or region starts a search for all documents containing this country or region. For countries consisting of more than one word please use an underline, i.e.: United_States (not: United States).
The term "United Kingdom" includes the countries "England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland". You can search for these countries separately as well, the results then refer exclusively to the respective country.
