The Centre for International Student Assessment (ZIB) was founded in October 2010 by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and The Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK). The ZIB unites the competences of three of the top-class institutions in German educational research, namely the School of Education of the Technische Universität München (TUM, Munich), the Leibniz Institute for Educational Research and Educational Information (DIPF, Frankfurt) and the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN, Kiel). It cooperates closely with the Institute for Educational Quality Improvement (IQB, Berlin), together the institutes run a research data centre (FDZ). Another central task is the national project management of the PISA survey in Germany.
