Der höhere Sekundarbereich ist für viele die letzte Phase schulischer Bildung vor dem Eintritt in die weiterführende Bildung oder Arbeitswelt. Insofern nimmt dieser Bereich eine Schlüsselstellung in der Vorbereitung auf das Leben ein. Im Jahr 2001 führte die OECD eine Vergleichsstudie zur formalen Sekundarbildung an Schulen durch, um die Voraussetzungen zu prüfen, die jungen Erwachsenen für den Zugang zum Berufsleben vorliegen. Untersucht wurden Aspekte der personellen und finanziellen Ausstattung von Schulen, der Zulassungspraxis und der professionellen Lehrerausbildung. Dieser Begleitband des Berichts stellt das Projekt, die Untersuchungsmethodik und die Recherchemöglichkeiten in der Datenbank auf der OECD-Homepage vor. (DIPF/GS.).

"Upper secondary education is the final stage of formal education for the majority of students in OECD countries, and as such it is a crucial staging point towards further learning and employment. But how successful are upper secondary schools in preparing young adults for life? The International Survey of Upper Secondary Schools (ISUSS) was established to answer this question. It investigates key factors which shape the succes of upper secondary students' learning, such as school management, financing, admission policies, professional development for teachers and ICT integration. As a companion volume, this report describes the methodology underlying the ISUSS study along with additional features related to the implementation of the project at a level of detail which allows researchers to understand and replicate the analyses.
