Die Autoren benutzen in ihrem Aufsatz den Begriff der école étendue ("erweiterte Schule") und stellen die Hypothese auf, dass sog. Virtuelle Lernumgebungen die Schulorganisation verändern werden, vor allem in ihrer Beziehung zu Raum und Zeit. Dabei sollte der Begriff der Distanz als ein wichtiger Faktor in einer Neukonzeptionierung der Schule mitgedacht werden. [Zusammenfassung: Redaktion Bildung Weltweit].

"Virtual learning environments and " extended school ". Toward a new school space-time? - Generalization of Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) to all secondary schools is set as a goal having to be achieved by the National Ministry of Education in France. In fact, the deployment of VLE is very gradual. In this paper we consider VLE as technical-pedagogical devices (Peraya, 1999) likely to change school organization, particularly in its relation to time and to space. We hypothesize that the concept of distance must be identified as an important factor in the development of uses and be explicitly taken into account to rethink the school concept."
