"In den letzten Jahren hat die Bedeutung von Citizenship Education, also Staatsbürgerlicher Erziehung, zugenommen. Werte wie Frieden, Menschrechte und Gleichheit wurden unter anderem durch Terroranschläge bedroht. Diese Werte müssen wieder mehr ins Bewusstsein gerückt werden und vor allem jungen Menschen vermittelt werden. Doch wie kann man Citizenship Education am Besten vermitteln? Kann es an Schulen unterrichtet werden, oder besser außerhalb von Schulen? Welche Unterstützungsmaßnahmen gibt es für Lehrerinnen und Lehrer? Die neu vorgelegte Eurydice-Studie "Citizenship Education at School in Europe - 2017" gibt Antworten auf diese Fragen und stellt existierende Regelungen und Empfehlungen zu diesem Thema vor. There has been a strong focus in recent years on the promotion of citizenship education, as a result of the increasing threats to fundamental values such as peace, equality and human rights Europe is faced with, and several countries are making changes to their policies in this area.
